Junior Program

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Junior volunteer program is on hold.

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Volunteer Program for Hunterdon Healthcare. Volunteers are a vital part of Hunterdon Healthcare and make a difference by providing that extra dimension of care and service to our patients, visitors, and staff. Each year, over 500 individuals from Hunterdon, Somerset, Warren Counties and beyond devote their time serving Hunterdon Medical Center and our many satellite locations. Volunteering at any of our facilities provides opportunities to improve and enrich the lives of others. At the same time, this program will provide insight into the medical and educational services provided at Hunterdon Medical Center, while allowing students an opportunity to learn about healthcare by assisting staff, visitors and patients with non-medical tasks. Volunteer opportunities do not include job shadowing or internship experience.

Junior volunteer opportunities will be available Monday through Friday, after school between the hours of 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM, with some exceptions. Weekend opportunities are minimal. Junior volunteers, high school students age 15-17, must make a dependable commitment of one shift per week for a minimum year term of 100 hours. This time commitment allows you as a volunteer to make a real impact on your assigned area and provides the greatest opportunity for personal satisfaction. We treasure our volunteers and encourage you to stay with us through graduation.

The Junior Application Packet will include:

– Application

– Parental Consent Form

– Essay/Questions form

– Health Report: This should be completed and signed by your physician. This includes required TB testing and mandatory annual Influenza Vaccination during flu season (October-March).

– Three recommendations: Guidance Counselor, Teacher and Personal

To be considered for acceptance into the Junior Volunteer Program for Hunterdon Healthcare, all documents must be returned. Recommendations may be submitted with the application in sealed signed envelopes or mailed, emailed or faxed directly to Volunteer Resources by the person making the recommendation.

Once an application has been received in its entirety, it will be reviewed to determine the applicant’s eligibility. If the application is accepted, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. The interview will help establish if the applicant’s skills, attitude and capabilities fit into Hunterdon Healthcare’s needs. The competition is strong and positions can be limited, so there may not be enough positions available for all who apply.

If selected to become a volunteer, you will be invited to attend a mandatory six-hour orientation. At orientation, you will need to purchase a uniform for $25.00 and we will take your photograph for your identification badge. We will also review Hunterdon Healthcare policies and procedures including, but not limited to HIPAA, confidentiality, safety and security, infection prevention, patient satisfaction sign-in and dress code.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Volunteer Resources at 908-788-6140.
