Direct Access Colonoscopy (DAC)
Colon Cancer Screening Program
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death in both men and women in the U.S., however, it is one of the most preventable cancers and most curable when detected at an early stage. Colonoscopy remains the “Gold Standard” for colorectal screening methods for its ability to view the entire colon and both detect and remove precancerous polyps during the same procedure.
In our commitment to the prevention of colon cancer, Advanced Gastroenterology & Nutrition (AGN) developed Direct Access Colonoscopy (DAC) – Colon Cancer Screening Program. By offering direct access scheduling, our hope is to encourage more patients the ease and convenience to schedule this life-saving screening procedure.
Direct Access Colonoscopy allows the primary care physician (PCP) to refer patients to our practice without a full gastrointestinal specialty consultation. Direct Access Colonoscopy is appropriate for healthy patients who need a routine screening colonoscopy and who have no serious medical conditions.
Direct Access Colonoscopy is recommended for:
- Asymptomatic healthy individuals greater than 50 years of age
- Individuals with a family history of colon cancer greater than 40 years of age
- Individuals with a personal history of colon polyps
The goal of our program is to work with you and our area PCP’s to help streamline the colon screening referral process while minimizing cost and inconvenience for patients who are in need of a colon screening, not a consultation.
