A Geriatric Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of the older adult by a team of health care professionals who specialize in geriatrics (the care of the elderly). Hunterdon Medical Center’s Geriatric Assessment Team looks at all areas of life – health habits, medications, social support, physical abilities, emotional health, and the environment – to help the seniors and family members adjust to the transitions associated with aging. The goal is to help elders live life to the fullest and help family members provide the best care possible.

Hunterdon Medical Center is one of 300 hospitals in North America to be designated a NICHE hospital. NICHE is the only national designation for nursing excellence indicating a hospital’s commitment to elder care excellence.

In addition to the Geriatric Assessment, The Hunterdon Center for Healthy Aging offers the following educational programs:

55 Alive

This defensive driving course, co-sponsored with the AARP, is offered for drivers over 50 every month.

The Aging Experience

In this sensitivity training program for professional and non-professional caregivers, participants learn and feel what it is like to be aged.

Support Groups

A caregivers support group for nurses and an arthritis support group are offered at Hunterdon Medical Center. For more information please call (908) 788-6373.
