Managing your acute pain is important to us. If you are having acute pain, you will be asked throughout your stay what your “pain level” is on a scale between 0 and 10. Your nurse will explain the pain scale to you and this information will be used to gauge how effective our acute pain management efforts are. Please tell a member of the ER team if you continue to experience discomfort after receiving pain medication. While keeping patient safety as our number one priority, every effort will be made within reason to alleviate or reduce your acute pain level. If you suffer from chronic pain, the ED will suggest local community health resources that are available to best manage your chronic pain. In general, the ED does not treat chronic pain with opiate medications. Management of chronic pain requires a multi-disciplinary approach and the ED is not the appropriate place for this.
If you are experiencing an emergency, call 9-1-1.
