Hunterdon Healthcare Supports Employees Impacted by Tropical Storm Ida
Twenty-nine employees of Hunterdon Healthcare System received assistance grants to help with property damage sustained during Tropical Storm Ida. Realizing that many staff members had significant damage to homes and other belongings from the storm, Hunterdon Healthcare leadership organized an internal fundraiser for an Ida Relief Fund to supplement an existing Sunshine Fund that supports staff facing emergencies throughout the year. In total, more than $16,000 in donations was collected from current employees of Hunterdon Healthcare.
Staff needing assistance were asked to complete a brief application describing their losses. They shared stories of flooded first floors and basements with devastating loss of furniture, appliances, and family heirlooms, as well as water damaged cars and outdoor property. A number had homes that were uninhabitable and were presently displaced.
A committee of nine peers from across the healthcare system reviewed the requests and awarded grants based on the level of need described. Twenty-nine staff applied for funding and all received an individual grant ranging between $250 and $1,000, totaling $17,250 in assistance.
“From the bottom of my heart, my family and I thank you and my peers across the Health System for your generosity. You don’t know how much this means to me and my family. I’m truly blessed to work for Hunterdon Healthcare and so thankful for helping those of us that were affected unexpectedly by this devastating storm Ida. We are still displaced so we greatly appreciate your consideration and continued support,” was one recipient’s response to the news of the grant.
