The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.
Throughout the year anyone in our organization may submit a nomination – patients, family members, co-workers, physicians, staff – anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse can thank them with a nomination for The Daisy Award. Nomination forms are available throughout the hospital or can be submitted through the form below.
DAISY Award recipients are presented with a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a beautiful, hand-carved serpentine stone sculpture from Zimbabwe, and a spotlight page on The DAISY Foundation website, featuring a photo and telling the story of why this nurse was honored.
