P.E.T. (Positron Emission Tomography) Scanning
This exciting new specialty of Nuclear Medicine is rapidly becoming a major diagnostic imaging tool used predominantly in determining the presence and severity of cancers, neurological conditions, and cardiovascular disease. It is currently the most effective way to check for cancer recurrences.
Hunterdon Healthcare System now uses the power of PET to provide better and more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
PET is particularly effective in identifying whether cancer is present or not; if it has spread; if it is responding to treatment, and if a person is cancer-free after treatment.
Cancers for which PET is considered very effective include lung, head, neck, colorectal, esophageal, lymphatic, melanoma, breast and thyroid.
PET scans performed at Hunterdon Medical Center are read by radiologists of the Radiology and Medical Imaging Department, who coordinate your scans with other imaging studies (CT scan, MRI, ultrasound and radiography).
PET Scanning is performed in the Department of Medical Imaging. To find out if PET is right for you, call 908-237-5395.
