Hospice Care: Its About How You Live
Speakers Bureau
As part of our community outreach, Hunterdon Hospice wants to maintain a dialogue with the community regarding end-of-life care issues. The Speakers Bureau is made up of volunteers and professionals trained to discuss these complex issues in a way that is comfortable and informative to groups within the community.
There are many myths and misconceptions about Hospice care that prevent timely access to the services. The hospice philosophy centers on care for the patient in the context of his or her family and community. Hospice emphasizes comfort and quality of life - not length of life and this sets it apart from many traditional health disciplines. Our goal is to educate the community about the facts of Hospice care so that and individual and their family can make timely choices about the care that is right for them.
Topics addressed in Speaker's Bureau presentations range from "Who pays for Hospice care?" to "Comfort care and symptom management." The agency's staff is also available to work with groups to tailor a presentation to special needs, such as "Grief following the loss of a child," or "Grief among long-term care workers." Speakers include hospice clinical professionals, trained volunteers, chaplains and social workers.
