Heart and Vascular Care - Education and Screening Programs
Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for both men and women!
Cardiovascular disease affects 58 million people.
Preventive screenings are invaluable in predetermining your risk for heart and/or vascular disease. Hunterdon Medical Center sponsors FREE monthly screenings located within the main hospital.
Know your numbers! Know your risks!: A cardiovascular assessment that provides you with a 10 year risk projection for having a heart attack. The screening includes blood pressure and weight circumference measurement, a personal risk factor inventory and interpretation of cholesterol levels.
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Screenings: One in every 20 Americans over the age of 50 has PAD, a condition that increases your risk for heart attack and stroke. PAD occurs when arteries outside of the heart, especially in your legs, become clogged with plaque and limit blood flow causing pain or cramping.
The ankle/brachial index test (ABI), is a painless exam that compares the blood pressure readings in your ankles with the blood pressure readings in your arms. Based on your results you are placed in a risk category. Education is provided about lifestyle changes that can decrease your chance of getting PAD.
