Physical and Occupational Therapy and Speech and Hearing Services for Patients with Neurological Conditions
From acute care in the Emergency Department through rehabilitation and Home Health Services, Hunterdon Healthcare has a sophisticated protocol to follow patients with neurologic conditions through recovery, every step of the way. Patients have access to rehabilitative treatment to help restore physical capabilities, as well as Visiting Health and Supportive Services for assistance at home. Physical and occupational therapy and speech and hearing services therapy are important treatment options to help improve your quality of life when you are living with a neurological condition.
Hunterdon Healthcare offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to patients of all ages in your home or outpatient at one of the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers, Hunterdon Sports and Physical Therapy Center or one of our outpatient physical therapy locations. Our multi-disciplinary teams of therapists, physicians and other specialists coordinate evaluation, testing and treatment programs to ensure the highest quality of care.
Our services include:
A course of physical therapy may reduce pain, increase your range of motion, increase strength and improve your functional mobility.
Hunterdon Healthcare’s outpatient physical therapists offer a one-on-one assessment in order to develop a comprehensive program to meet your individual needs. Patients see the same therapist at each visit and work together to build rapport and trust. The course of rehabilitation includes training in follow-up exercises to allow the patient to safely continue the program at work or at home.
Hunterdon Healthcare now offers a highly sophisticated technology at Hunterdon Medical Center, which enables stroke and other neurological patients to regain lost mobility and also enable them to achieve greater independence than they believed to be possible. The NESS L300™ Foot Drop System is a neuro-rehabilitation system, which is a revolution in Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) technology, designed to help patients experiencing foot drop to regain mobility and help “normalize” walking and gait. Central nervous system injuries often result in foot drop–leading to instability and difficulty walking. The screening is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment and get pre-screened by phone, call 661-877-7020.
Occupational therapy helps people disabled by neurological illness or injury to achieve independence in their activities of daily living. Treatment programs are designed to promote self-sufficiency, maintain strength and regain motion.
In addition to traditional occupational therapy techniques, the department offers hand therapy and special upper extremity rehabilitation by certified hand therapists.
