What is MRI?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to help diagnose and treat medical conditions. It is a noninvasive procedure that provides a detailed image of almost any internal structure in the body.

MRI scans can spot even the smallest abnormalities, and due to their high sensitivity, are used to evaluate parts of the body that can not be properly viewed through X-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography (CT).

For what areas of the body does MRI provide imaging?

In recent years, MRI technology has emerged as an important non-invasive technique to diagnose abnormalities. It is safe and uses no X-ray. MRI provides imaging of the:

  • brain
  • spine
  • chest
  • abdomen
  • extremity
  • joint
