Nurse at ComputerHunterdon Medical Center encourages the professional and personal development of our employees. All of our staff nurses have the opportunity to receive extra compensation through our "Professional Achievement Level Program." This program enables staff nurses to earn additional cash awards through:

In addition, we provide paid time continuing education (in-services and conferences) and an extensive orientation program.

Preceptor Program

The nursing department of the Hunterdon Healthcare System is based on a Shared Governance philosophy of responsibility. The Preceptor program is designed for qualified, experienced staff RN’s to precept new nursing staff during clinical orientation. RN’s interested in becoming preceptors apply to their Nurse Directors. Nurse Directors determine if the RN meets criteria for preceptors and recommend qualified staff for a Preceptor course. It is the preceptor’s responsibility to prepare new nursing staff to be clinically competent to care for patients and to integrate them into their role on the nursing unit.

Mentor Program

The Mentor program at the Hunterdon Healthcare System is designed to provide the new nurse with additional resources in the assimilation of a new job environment. Every new nurse is assigned a mentor. The mentor will assist the Novice nurse in making the transition from orientee to competent staff nurse. The formal relationship between mentor and mentee continues for a minimum of 12 months.  A staff nurse’s participation as a mentor is voluntary. An interested staff nurse must have 3-5 years of experience and have been actively precepting for a minimum of one year. She/he must apply and be approved to be a mentor.
