Visiting Health and Supportive Services

Visiting Health and Supportive Services is a United Way member agency caring for chronically ill patients, sick children, and the homebound elderly in the comfort of their own home.

Certified Home Health Aides are specially trained, and certified by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. They can help you with personal care, light housekeeping, and meal preparation. They also will work with you to reinforce any physical, speech and occupational therapy regimens prescribed for you.

NeighborCARE provides safety and supervision for adults who cannot remain at home alone. Full time family Caregivers are able to address personal, legal or business obligations without worrying about the safety and security of their homebound relative.

The Statewide Respite Care Program is a New-Jersey-funded program which provides limited assistance to families for their respite needs. The Program can pay for short-term nursing home placement, adult day care service, certified home health aides or companion care to qualifying families. Income guidelines define eligibility.

In-Home Caregiver Training provides the hands-on skills that allow family caregivers to feel more confident in maintaining a family member or friend. A Registered Nurse assesses the needs of the individual, then develops a plan which addresses their special situation.

Mother's Helper Service provides in-home assistance program that caters to the needs of new parents, whether it be their first or third child. The Mother’s Helper Service is provided by Hunterdon Healthcare’s Visiting Health and Supportive Services and offers either a Companion or Certified Home Health Aide.

The Mother’s Helper Companions have completed specialized infant care classes.  They can assist new parents with baby care and household chores, enabling parents to have some time for themselves.  The Companions also can provide:

  • Infant care and sibling supervision
  • Diaper changes and dressing
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Grocery shopping
  • Light housework
  • Assist with errands
  • Make beds and change linens
  • Take baby or siblings for a walk
  • Read and play games with siblings

The Certified Home Health Aides are specially trained to provide personal care to mom and baby.  In addition to all the services the Companions provide, the Home Health Aide services also include hands on care such as:

  • Assistance with bathing/shampooing/skin care for baby
  • Hair care
  • Light massage/foot massage
  • Infant feeding

A Registered Nurse will accompany the Certified Home Health Aide on the first visit to develop a plan of care per the parent’s specifications and needs.

The Companions and Certified Home Health Aides can be scheduled in 4 hour blocks of time with initial visit costs ranging from $115 for Companions and $165 for Certified Home Health Aides. Additional 4 hour block visits cost $80 for Companions and $115 for Certified Home Health Aides.  Gift certificates are available for the Mother’s Helper Service.
