Hunterdon Medical Center Makes the Immunization Action Coalition’s Influenza Vaccination Honor Roll

November 30, 2018

Hunterdon Medical Center recently was added to the Immunization Action Coalition’s Influenza Vaccination Honor Roll because of their stellar employee influenza vaccine program and compliance rates.

“We are very proud that the percentage of all staff (employees, licensed independent practitioners, and volunteers) that received the flu vaccine throughout Hunterdon Healthcare was 97% in the 2017-2018 season.  In 2016-2017, we achieved 96%.  This surpassed the state reported adherence percentage of only 87%, the national reported adherence percentage of only 89%, and the Healthy People 2020 goal of at least 90%.  In fact, since implementing our mandatory flu vaccine program in 2013-2014, our vaccination compliance has always exceeded these benchmarks,” explained Lisa Rasimowicz, MSN, RN, CIC, Director of Infection Prevention at Hunterdon Medical Center.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to hospitalization and death.  While most healthy people recover from the flu without complications, some people are at high risk for serious complications from the flu. The best way to prevent the flu is to get the flu vaccine every year.  Getting vaccinated yourself also protects people around you, including those who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness, like pregnant women, babies and young children, older people, and people with certain chronic health conditions.  The NJ Department of Health has reported that flu activity has begun in NJ so if you didn’t get vaccinated already, get the flu vaccine as soon as you can.  Contact your primary care physician to schedule an appointment.  If you need a primary care physician, please call Hunterdon Medical Center’s Physician Referral Service at 1-800-511-4462.
