Clinton TaeKwonDo Academy Will Try to Kick Cancer with Spirit Fest!

Published April 7, 2008

On Friday, April 25th from 4pm - 9pm the students at Clinton TaeKwonDo Academy (CTA) will work hard to kick cancer with a kick-a-thon to benefit the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center (HRCC).  Starting now, CTA students are collecting pledges "per kick" with a goal of doing several hundred kicks each.   Money raised will be donated to help build up the existing Patient Care Fund at HRCC and also to help with equipment purchases for the Cancer Center.   The event will be held at Clinton TaeKwonDo Academy, located in the Wal-Mart Plaza in Clinton.  Spectators are welcome to watch and even try a few kicks of their own as part of a short sample class the night of the event.

This is the kick-off event for Spirit Fest at Clinton TaeKwonDo Academy.  In addition to the April Kick-a-Thon, Spirit Fest will also include a Break-a-Thon, where select black belt students will collect pledges to break boards using specific kicks and punches.  The Break-a-Thon will be held on Saturday, May 17th at CTA from 12:30am - 3pm and the public is encouraged to come and watch their power and skill.  Anyone who donates at least $10 to either event will be given a certificate good for two free TaeKwonDo classes at CTA.
Frank Paul, Owner and Chief Instructor of CTA and 4th Degree Black Belt says, "We have over 350 students at our school and our goal is to have close to 100% participation from all of our families.  If we do this, we feel that we can raise over $30,000 for the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center," Mr. Paul has a family history of cancer and is deeply dedicated to raising money for this important cause.  "I'm well aware of how difficult it is to fight cancer and I'm really happy that we can make a difference for the patients at HRCC.  I'm particularly glad that we can have an impact in our own community.  This is a great bunch of students who are very competitive and ambitious, so we know we can work together to raise a lot of money for a great organization in a really fun way," says Paul.

"I like kicking and I know I can raise money for cancer," explains why Erik Duerr, an 8-year old green belt student at CTA, plans to participate in the Kick-a-Thon.  Other students are excited for the opportunity to get even more fit for a cause.  Still more just love the opportunity to use the amazing skills that they've developed during their TaeKwonDo training in a way that helps others.

Money raised from both the Kick-a-Thon on April 25th and the Break-a-Thon on May 17th will be donated to the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center (HRCC). Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center, a partner of Fox Chase Cancer Center, features comprehensive medical and radiation oncology services, early detection and screening programs, nutritional support, genetic counseling, psychosocial services, clinical research, education and support programs.  Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS) and was a past recipient of the ACOS Outstanding Achievement Award.  This prestigious honor is awarded to cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.  What this means is the residents of Hunterdon and surrounding counties can feel confident that they're receiving excellent cancer care at HRCC. In fact, long-term survival statistics for many cancers treated at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center exceed state and national averages.   For more information on the HRCC, call 908-788-1260.

Founded in 1993, Clinton TaeKwonDo Academy is the only school in the area that provides full time, highly qualified professional instructors for all classes.  CTA instructors are required to undergo extensive training on an ongoing basis, studying Martial Arts, teaching techniques, motivational techniques, and the best methods for conducting the safest classes possible.  In fact, Owner Frank Paul was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2006.   Mr. Paul is known and respected for his ability to teach exciting and educational classes while instilling discipline and respect.  He and all CTA instructors have the ability to get each student to reach their fullest potential and achieve goals once thought impossible. The most popular martial art
worldwide, TaeKwonDo has evolved into not only the most effective method of self-defense, but also an intricate art, an exciting sport, and a method of maintaining outstanding physical fitness.
