It was their first day of Spring break and Ashley Marino and Dalia Pandelios of Lower Saucon Valley, Pennsylvania chose not to sleep in on their day off from school, but to spend the day at Hunterdon Medical selling jewelry they created to benefit Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. The girls donated $1000 to Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center from their sale.
From Our Heart Jewelry collection is designed by both Ashley and Dalia who use Swarovski crystals, sterling silver, Hematite, gold overlay and high quality specialty beads and gem stones. Proceeds from their sales benefit cancer research and saving the rain forests, two charities the girls believe firmly in. “It is special to us to give to cancer research because both of us have had someone very special in our lives touched by cancer,” explained Dalia Pandelios. Dalia’s grandmother was diagnosed with cancer 13 years ago and was able to get an experimental drug because of cancer research and has been in remission for 10 years. Dalia stated, “It is also important for us to keep rainforest alive, not only for endangered animals that live there, but for the entire human race.”
The Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center will use the donation for patient care programs. The Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center is staffed by board-certified oncologists, radiation oncologists and oncology-certified nurses. Its comprehensive services include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, clinical research, early detection and screening programs, support groups, educational programs, nutrition counseling, psychosocial support, complimentary therapies and cancer risk assessment.
