COMMENDATION OF EXCELLENCE

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recently presented Hunterdon Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program with a Commendation of Excellence in recognition of the program's contribution to the specialty of Family Practice. Hunterdon Medical Center is the first recipient in the nation of this honor.

The award was presented during a Symposium held in celebration of Hunterdon Medical Center's 50th Anniversary, and to highlight 50 years of graduate medical education provided by Hunterdon Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program, one of the first in the country.

The goal of a Family Medicine Residency Program is to equip physicians to provide comprehensive care for family members of all ages. During their training, Physician Residents provide inpatient and outpatient care, make house calls, serve as school physicians, cover nursing homes and participate in community health programs.

The three-year residency program at HMC has been affiliated with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School since 1972.

The AAFP is one of the largest national medical organizations, representing more than 94,000 family physicians, family practice residents and medical students nationwide.
