Heart Health Assessment Screenings include Blood Pressure Checks, BMI and Risk Factor Assessment. Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Screenings measure the Ankle/Brachial Index, or “ABI.” This is a simple, painless test that compares the blood pressure in your ankles with the blood pressure in your arms.

Family Risk Assessment Program (FRAP)

FRAP is designed to help indiciduals with a family history of cancer to understand hereditary factors that can influence their risk of cancer. This multi-disciplinary cancer risk assessment and genetic counseling program is open to individuals with a family or personal history of cancer. Registration required. Please call (908) 237-2330.

Look Good... Feel Better:

Monday, February 8, 2010
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

This single session program helps women undergoing cancer treatment learn to manage the appearance changes that may occur. A licensed cosmetologist will teach hands-on makeup techniques, as well as skin and nail care. All participants receive an array of complimentary cosmetics and skin care products. This program was founded by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation in partnership with the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association. It is offered alternating months and is hosted by Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. Registration is required; please call 1-800-ACS-2345.

Donate Blood

Fewer than five percent of healthy Americans actually roll up their sleeves and donate blood each year. To be eligible to donate blood, a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. Basic Babysitting Skills for Youths
(Ages 11 - 14)

Is your child ready to embrace babysitting responsibilities? This very popular program introduces preteens and teens to the world of infants, toddlers and children. Includes infant and child growth and development stages and childcare basics, i.e. diapering, feeding, dressing, fire safety and first aid. Material is presented via fun, hands-on practice with lifelike manikins, role-playing scenarios and interactive problem solving exercises. Students also lean to keep themselves safe by focusing on the "business of babysitting." Forty-page work notebook with labeled dividers, multiple sets of business forms and introductory letters. Afternoon snack is provided and participation certificate issued. Fee $45. Call (908) 788-6614 for information.

Is your preteen home alone for short periods? Consider having your youngster participate in our Basic Babysitting Skills for Youth Program. Many parents feel this helps their child head in the right direction to accept responsibility, handle minor events, stengthen self-esteem and gain a sense of safeness when home alone.

Arthritis and Osteoporosis Support and Education Group

2nd Monday of each month
1:00-3:00 p.m.

Held in Meeting Room A/B at Hunterdon Medical Center. This free support and education group is open to individuals with arthritis, their families and caregivers. Some meetings will include an educational portion led by a health professional, followed by a group discussion about relevant topics, which concern the quality of life for people affected by arthritis. Dial a Hearing Screening Test

A free telephone hearing screening test. Tones are introduced to each ear. If you don’t hear all of the tones, you have failed the test and are advised to seek a more diagnostic hearing exam. Call 908-788-2951.

Hospice Volunteer Training

Training classes meet from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday October 24th, and then 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on evenings October 25th-October 29th. The classes will be held at the Hospice Office located at 215 Route 31 South in Flemington. Contact Joy Stump, Hunterdon Hospice Volunteer Coordinator at (908) 788-2573 to arrange an interview.

Youth Art Therapy Bereavement Program

School-age children (Kindergarten through 12th grade) who have experienced the loss of a loved one are welcome. Parents are invited to attend a companion parents’ group. Tours of the Maternity and Newborn Care Center

Free tours of the Maternity and Newborn Care Center are held regularly. Tours fill quickly, so please call (908) 788-MOMS (6667) to reserve your space. Tours last about one hour and children are welcome. Please note, if you are scheduled into one of our Lamaze or HynoBirth classes, a tour is included in your class series.

HypnoBirth Classes

One evening per week for 5 weeks
6:30-9:00 p.m.

The HypnoBirth philosophy is that while muscles and nerves may send pain impulses, the pain can be blocked with the use of hypnosis, a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration. HypnoBirthing is a great choice for a birth as natural and intervention free as possible. Cost: $205 per couple or single. To learn more, call 908-788-MOMS.

Hypnosis Services

HMC now offers Hypnosis for families to help make the most of their pregnancy and childbirth experience. Hypnosis can help with issues such as nausea, vomiting, high blood pressure, preterm labor, stress, smoking, fears, and weight loss. Jean Jamele, RN, and Christine Race, RN, each have over 30 years of nursing experience. Both are certified Hynocounselors through the National Guild of Hypnotists. Fee varies. Smart Cart - Personal Grocery Shopper

Have you ever wished that you could take your own nutritionist to the grocery store? Hunterdon Medical Center introduces our personal grocery shopper service. A nutritionist will provide customized nutrition advice based on your food preferences and dietary needs as she guides you through the grocery store aisles. You will come away with a customized grocery list, label reading skills and information to make informed decisions about food.

Sugar Babies

Sugar Babies is a support group for kids with Type 1 diabetes and their families. Our purpose is to help these kids and their families adjust successfully to the ongoing demands of diabetes management using the strategies of games, problem solving and role playing. The group meets the third Wednesday of every odd month from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management. Meetings are facilitated by a Certified Diabetes Educator. Prediabetes Class

Held the first Tuesday of the month from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Learn how to reduce your risk of diabetes. Cost is $50 for the first class and includes a blood sugar meter. Follow up class is $25. Call to register 908-237-6920.

Weigh to Go

Weigh to Go is a 4 week weight management group for kids ages 10-14. Weigh to Go is a non diet approach to weight loss that promotes changes in food habits and exercise that can be sustained long term. Classes are provided by a registered dietitian. A parent is required to attend. Please call to pre-register at (908) 237-6920. Classes run year round.

Yoga for Every Age

Hunterdon Medical Center offers Yoga every Friday from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Classes are held at the hospital in Meeting Room C.

Classes are taught by a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor Lynne C. LaSpina, C.Y.T., R.Y.T. The cost is $10 per session and participants should bring a yoga mat, towel and wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. The class is open not only to people with diabetes but all who have an interest in yoga. Class size is limited. No registration required.
