For years, art has been used as a decoration. More and more, hospitals are using art to create a healing and therapeutic environment for patients. At Hunterdon Medical Center the art on display in the Emergency Department is helping to provide comfort for patients. Local artist, Paul Jennis of Raritan Township, painted the four seasons of Hunterdon County. The series of paintings are called, A Time to Heal and a Place for all Seasons. According to Mr. Jennis, “The goal was to keep the subject matter of the paintings local and therefore relatable to patients and employees. One of the other tough challenges was to create the continuity and fluidity of color, design, detail of textures, mood of the compositions and most importantly keep it simple to create harmony.” The four paintings depict the following: Winter – Lambertville; Spring- the Clinton Mill; Summer – Spruce Run Reservoir; and Fall- Buffalo Farm of Stanton Ridge. Mr. Jennis is known for painting Governor Codey’s portrait, a mural for St. Magdalene’s and a Gone with The Wind plate series for the Bradford Exchange.
