Rev. Jim DeVries, Director of Pastoral Care at Hunterdon Medical Center and Chaplain for Hunterdon Hospice was presented with the R. Kirk Seaton, M.D. Memorial Award. The award is given to a member of the medical community who has made significant contributions to the Hunterdon Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program, the Hunterdon Medical Center and the community at large.
James DeVries of Kendall Park, begins his 29thyear as a full-time chaplain, having previously been Director of Pastoral Care at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick as well as hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Albany, New York. He is a graduate of Hope College and has a Masters of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary, both in Holland, Michigan. He is a Board Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains. At Hunterdon Medical Center and Hospice, he is responsible for the daily religious and spiritual care of the patients, their families and staff. He is co-chair of the Ethics Consultation, serves on the hospitals Bio-Ethics Committee, and is a member of the Palliative Care Team. Presently he is a Board Member of the Volunteer Guardianship One-On-One, Inc. Rev. DeVries is the recipient of the Organ and Tissue Sharing Network’s Donor Advocate Award for 2006 and in 2008 received the Hospice Spiritual Caregiver of the Year Award by the New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
