Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of death in women, after lung cancer. About 192,370 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2009. About 40,170 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are more than two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
Getting a mammogram is an important step women can take to protect their health. The best protection is early detection. Women who are:
• In their 20’s and 30’s should have a clinical breast exam every 3 years.
• Age 40 or older should have a mammogram every year.
Help spread the word. Encourage your mother, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, co-workers, neighbors and friends to schedule their mammogram.
To schedule your mammogram call Hunterdon Medical Center at 908-788-6388.
